Thanks to the support of the CNY Community Foundation and the Oswego City/ County Youth Bureau, the Oswego Players is very excited to announce its expanded commitment to our younger generation in and around Oswego County as it launces the Theater Arts Youth Academy beginning February 2019. The year long three semester program will include classes in Acting, Set, Lights, Sound, and Costume Design. Additional opportunities for Set Construction, Props, Music and Dance are in the works as well.

The Oswego Players, Inc. has long supported youth participation in our community theater. This month, audiences enjoyed the Oswego Players’ production of “A Christmas Story.” The show’s cast included a majority of young actors, many of whom stepped onto the stage for the first time.

Plans are to offer students 8 to 18 free Saturday classes taught by local experts in their field. Lively classroom instruction and practicum sessions will center around the information and skills dealing with all aspects of live theater production. Participants will have the added opportunity to participate in a live theater production each semester.  The first Semester Program will include:

Theatre arts has many benefits, especially for kids who are still trying to find a place in the world and figure out who they are and what gifts they have to share. Research tells us that theater arts sparks imagination, builds focus, improves memory, enhances communication skills, and even impacts on academic improvement. Not to mention the pure fun and magic the theater creates.
