We know what you must be thinking! Who are these women? What are they smiling about? Why are they holding their hands up as if they are toasting someone? And what are all those boards in the background for? Well, it’s no mystery. Really it isn’t. The answers are very simple. Here goes…
The four sippers include Beverly Murtha and Beth DeRouse in the front row, and Sherri Metz and Gina Wentworth standing in the back. These four talented young (lol) actresses are the main characters in the lively comedy, “The Savannah Sipping Society.” The show is the season opener for the Oswego Players 84th Anniversary year.
They are smiling because they are having great fun creating the characters they will play in the Jones, Wooten, Hope comedy April 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 in the Oswego Players’ Frances Marion Brown Theater. As the titlesuggests, they are raising their hands in a toast (without glasses of course) practicing their sipping skills, of which they do a lot of in the play.
Right now, the four sipping society ladies are in full rehearsal. In the background a beautiful set is being constructed by Bob and Skeeter Collins. There are many pieces that must come together over the next few weeks, and there are many wonderful volunteers working to make the magic of live theater come together.
All of this is carried out with talent, creativity, enthusiasm, and lots of love until the lights go up and the curtain opens on opening night. You don’t have to wait to get a ticket. Just log onto our website: www.oswegoplayers.org and make your reservation now.
