When Jennifer Waugh walked into auditions, she was hoping to get a part in the comedy, “Dearly Departed.” She read for a couple of the female roles, had fun and left for home, not knowing whether she had done well or not. Jennifer’s prior experience with the Oswego Players was part in the ensemble of “Annie Get Your Gun.” So when Director Paul McKinney called her on the phone a few days later, she was really excited.
Little did Jennifer know just how excited Paul was that she had auditioned. This time around, she’d won a pivotal role in the Oswego Players’ comedy. Within just a few rehearsals it became evident to Jennifer’s fellow actors that she was approaching this process with great professionalism and a wonderful sense of fun.
Jennifer plays Lucille, the even-tempered wife of Ray-Bud Turpin, played by Eric Cronk. As the play unfolds, we find Lucille moving from family member to family member as the calming thread within this turbulent Turpin family. A family totally off kilter and, shall we say, a bit dysfunctional. The laughs are many and the energy is high as this talented cadre of actors and actresses play their parts to the max.
The Oswego Players’ season opener comes just when we all need to sit back and laugh out loud. And “Dearly Departed,” is sure to do just that during its run in the Frances Marion Brown Theater, Civic Arts Center, 30 Donahue Dr. Oswego. The show opens August 6th and runs at 7:30 pm Aug. 6, 7, 13, 14 and August 8, 15 at 2 pm.
