I attended the opening night performance of “Bad Auditions by Bad Actors” and found myself in the last row of the theater waiting for the show to begin. Our Theater Arts Youth Program is in its fourth year and this production was special for many reasons.
Because of the impact of COVID-19, Bad Auditions is the first live stage production the Oswego Players’ Theater Arts Youth Academy has been able to present since 2019.
This cast that Norm Berlin has so ably assembled includes students that have been with the Academy since its beginning. And most excitedly a few of the cast members are brand new to the group. In fact, a couple of folks are new to acting in general. That’s right, never been in a play of any kind.
From the moment the lights went up on stage until the house went dark, I found myself giggling quietly to myself or uncontrollably laughing out loud at the antics these youngsters went through bringing their multiple characters to life.
But most of all, I couldn’t help but feel such deep pride in how much growth was evident in those students who have been with us since the beginning of the Academy. The adage is so true…” practice makes…” Hats off to each and every actor for making this a fun night.
Special kudos to Marie Sterphone who out did herself once again with the costumes. They were perfection. And thanks to Sonia Berlin for managing the box office and house. It was smooth running as always. Oh, and the director, who was it again? Oh, it’s Norm Berlin, of course. Just one word for you Norm…PROUD!
PLEASE…make some time in your schedule and get out to support these kids. They deserve to have a full house of laughter during the remaining run of their show.
