The Oswego Players are pleased to announce auditions for their December holiday production Andrew J. Fenady’s “Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus.” This classic holiday story for the whole family will be directed by Jennifer Hitchcock.

The auditions will be a cold reading from the script held at the Francis Marion Brown theatre in Oswego on Wednesday, October 9th from 5:00 pm to 6: 30 pm and Sunday, October 13th from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. There are parts for 8 women and 17 men, with numerous roles that could be either gender, ages ranging from twenty to Sixty. There are also several roles for children ages 5 to 12 years of age.

Inspired by a simple, poignant letter written over 100 years ago by 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon to the editor of the New York Sun—and by the timeless editorial response printed on the front page of the Sun. Virginia wondered and wrote: “Dear Editor, I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says if you see it in the Sun, it’s so. Please tell me the truth. Is there a Santa Claus?” Ed Mitchell, the Sun‘s editor, gives the assignment of answering Virginia’s letter to Frank Church who, until his wife and baby died last Christmas Eve, was the Sun‘s best and most dependable reporter. Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus is a play for young and old, magically reaffirming life’s highest beauty and joy—”the eternal light with which childhood fills the world.”

Show dates for “Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus” are December 6th, 7th, 8th and December 13th, 14th and 15th. “Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus” is presented by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.
